HMC – Liwan & Ichthys Installation Procedures
Project description:
The Liwan 3-1 gas field sits in licence block 29/26 in the South China Sea, 350km south-east of Hong Kong in the Pearl River Mouth Basin. It lies in an average water depth of 1,300m.
Saipem was awarded a contract in May 2011 to engineer, procure, construct and install two 79km-long pipelines with a 22in diameter, umbilicals and a subsea production system.
Heerema Marine Contractors was contracted by Saipem to finalize the EPIC project.
McDermott Australia (McDermott) has awarded Heerema Marine Contractors Australia Pty Ltd (HMC) a contract to transport and install infield flowlines, subsea structures and moorings for the INPEX Ichthys LNG Project.
HMC will carry out the transportation and installation of a portion of the offshore scope, utilizing the heavy lift, J-Lay and Reel-Lay capability of Heerema’s new-build vessel Aegir.
Scope of work
HMC’s scope of work includes the transportation and installation of flowlines, production flowlines, integrated pipeline structures, large subsea structures, a subsea riser support structure, and moorings for future FPSO and CPF facilities.

Our sister company, Offshore Independents BV (OI), was contracted by Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) to provide the installation procedures for the Liwan & Ichthys projects at the HMC head office in Leiden.
